Blackharn Labradors

The Blackharn Kennel, owned by Tony Parnell, has been producing Kennel Club registered black and yellow Labrador Retrievers since 1959.

Tony's gundog training mentor was the late Jack Curtis, Her Majesty the Queen's Sandringham dog trainer. Under his guidance Tony became totally hooked on Gundog Training and the Sandringham Kennel was the origin of his very first Labrador. Jack encouraged Tony to enter Field Trials and he won his very first two Trials with Blackharn Teal. This set the scene for his future in Trials with his most successful dog being FTCh Blackharn Jonty. Jonty won seven out of eleven 24 dog Open Qualifying Stakes and competed in the International Gundog League Retriever Championships on six occasions achieving Third Place at Garrowby in 1983.

The Blackharn Labrador Retrievers are good looking dogs with strong bone structure renowned for their natural marking and game finding abilities. In training Tony looks for a steady, quiet, biddable dog with a good temperament and kind expression but with the stamina and determination. In the shooting field the dogs must be willing to sit quietly at a drive, enter water, face heavy cover and jump over fences.

All dogs are Hip Scored and Eye Tested before breeding and, if required as a working gundog, are fully tested in the shooting field.

Tony's experience as a Kennel Club "A" Panel Retriever Judge has taken him to America, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Hungary and Northern Ireland judging Field Trials and Gundog Working Tests. Training Seminars have also featured in these countries.
